Description
Up for auction is this stunning and incredibly rare antique Royal Copenhagen (Denmark) 9 3/4 inch plate w/ hand painted vegetables. This plate was certainly an early predecessor to the popular Flora Danica series. It has a hand painted image of red and green tomatoes on a leafy vine along with turnips and a couple of other leaf (probably lettuce), as well as fruit-like (possible a green tomato), vegetables. The outer circumference of the plate has a gold painted design, very similar to some later Flora Danica patterns. Smooth edge is trimmed in a double heavy gold design. Fully marked on the back with the 3 blue Royal Copenhagen underglaze line logo. Also hand marked with factory #'s 490, 10519 and 15. This rare mark dates the antique piece from 1870-1890. The plate is in excellent condition with only some very minor roughness on the back where it sits on a table, commensurate and expected with the antique age of the piece (this is extremely minor and only mentioned for complete accuracy!). Colors are clean and bright. A great and extremely rare piece in nice shape offered with NO RESERVE!!A wonderful addition to any Royal Copenhagen, Danish or general porcelain collection!
