On 1908 Gillette began to use the new "diamond and arrow" trademark logo in the new blades produced.
It is not sure if this logo was engraved on the base plate of the razors at this time, or this happened later.
Different marks can be found on the back of the head plate:
1. - Just a "G" inside a square. Used before and after 1908, not necessary only before the diamond logo.
2. - "Diamond and arrow" logo. Always after 1908.
3. - "Diamond and arrow" logo with "KNOWN THE WORLD OVER". Always afeter 1908.
4. - "MADE IN U.S.A." use to be with the diamond logo. Probably used after 1914 (First World War).
5. - Nothing.
6. - "King C. Gillette" signature engraved (back of the base plate and the cap).
GILLETTE MODELS
The #460 model is commonly known today as "Single ring".
Went on sale for the first time on June 1906. Althought there are few razors dated on 1905 according to its serial number.
The "double ring" #460 model changes its design on 1905. The new redesigned #460 standard model has just a different neck design on the handle, with the only difference that now has only one ring.
In 1908 Gillette changes its corporate image, and designs the "diamond and arrow" trademark logo, including it on metal blade boxes, leather and metal cases and the back of the razors base plate.
We must notice that when a single ring model needs to be dated, it is only necessary to look at the serial number, or the engraved marks on the back of the comb base plate, although sometimes razors do not have serial number, and they are not necessarely dated before 1905.

The second razor manufactured by Gillette is called the Single Ring, however this name was given to it many years later. For the first decade it was simply referred to as "The Gillette Razor". This razor model was changed from the original Double Ring design without fanfare (very unlike Gillette.)
Because the simplified version wasn't toted as 'improved' we can believe the change went largely unnoticed and allowed Gillette to manufacture more efficiently, also seeing an increase in marketing this razor as adjustable. Many collectors think the adjustability mindset began with the Super Speed Trio, but that's not the full story. By loosening the head the blade was allowed to spring up, and the shaver could find the perfect amount of efficiency for the smoothest shave!
According to the Gillette razor chart these numbers are associated with 1905 45425-370424… This is the number that is on the twist the cap off barrel, 340532. This Fantastic Gillette Old Type Razor was made in 1905, can you imagine. This Razor Is In Close to Mint Condition, No Bent Teeth, No Stress Fracture in the Handle, Everything Is As Tight Is It Should Be. You Can Tell It's Been Plated Silver from a Certain Type of Patina on the Metal. Weight is 51g. There Is a bit of Plate Loss, but nothing too bad. There is no Rust, Dings or Dents!
