ANTIQUE CHINESE SILVER FIGURAL DEITY HAT AMULET CHARM W/ STERLING CHAIN

Description

An unusual and charming antique Chinese protective hat amulet on sterling silver chain. Amulets such as this were worn on hats to bring the wearer good fortune. Repousse figure made of silver-tone metal, perhaps modelled after a Chinese deity, holds a scroll and a longer, crowbar-shaped instrument, and wears special headdress with rotatable side pieces. Hollow cone shape with small holes on bottom and sides for sewing to garment. This amulet has been repurposed as a charm and now has a small loop for display on a necklace, here paired with sterling silver chain. Good vintage condition, just heavily tarnished, lower left corner of figural amulet has slight upward bend - see pictures. Amulet measures approx. 1 3/4"l x 7/8"w, and weighs approx. 4g/0.1oz. Chain measures approx. 16 1/2"l and weighs approx. 4g/0.1oz. No marks observed on amulet but chain's loop and spring ring are marked "STERLING". A terrific piece of Chinese metalwork!
