We traveled nearly 2,500 miles to Montana once we received the call about this hoard which over the phone sounded too good to be true! When we arrived, we were blown away at what we saw!
We were brought to a small home on the property which was being torn down. The house was built in the 1800's and showed age. What we saw next was unbelievable! The small home was pack full of vintage coins and paper money. We immediately saw vintage mason jars filled with coins, sacks of coins, and rolls of coins littered throughout the entire house. If there is a coin heaven, this house is it for sure!
The property owners said that this hoard hadn't seen the light of day in over 50 years. After days of pulling the items out of the house, we started to negotiate with the owners.  After the deal was complete, we loaded the entire hoard on our truck and headed back.
What's Inside The Bags?
As you know a 3 day return road trip can get slightly boring. So while traveling down the road I decided to scoop up some hand fulls of wheat cents from one of the sacks. I was blown away once again as I quickly glanced at the coins. The mix of wheat cents present in this hoard is terrific!
I was surprised with the
amount of semi-key and key dated coins spotted. All mint marks and dates were present. Including Philadelphia, Denver, and San-Francisco minted coins. The coins are dated from the 1800's - 1958. There were plenty of steel cents and uncirculated coins. I also spotted some old indian cents, buffalo nickels, and even a silver dime or two mixed in as well. I was pleasantly surprised to see the amount of teens and twenties dated wheat cents in the lots. Most of the wheat cents lots offered here on eBay are no more than common pennies from the 1940's and 1950's. But not with these lots! You will likely get the best mix of coins offered here on eBay for the price! This is an incredible opportunity to own a group of coins which are truly unique.
Once I was done looking through my hand fulls, I realized that I would not sort through any more wheat cents from this hoard. More About The Hoard
The collection is named The Silver Dollar Ranch Hoard because the hoard was located on the "Silver Dollar Ranch" Property. This ranch stretches 5,000 acres and is located in Montana. The property is over an hour away from the closest small city and full of dozens of stories about cowboys and indians who roamed the land. The property was named the "Silver Dollar Ranch" because the owners made so much money off the land that the local people thought they were growing silver dollars instead of wheat. So is this hoard the profit the property owners stashed away during their prime on the farm?
We have found many other cool pieces on this property including some vintage alcohol stills from the early 1900's. The property also sits very close to the Canadian border. So it makes you wonder, was this hoard the result of a profitable "bootlegging" operations during the 1920's?
The property owners also told me that Teddy Roosevelt has stayed on the property numerous times during his hunting trips in the area. So this makes one wonder, were some of these coins stashed in the house by Teddy Roosevelt?
When the Great Depression rolled around in the 1930's, t
here were
very, very few people
who could afford to stash away so many coins
. When most people during the depression only had a few nickels in their pockets, someone was amassing thousands upon thousands of coins in this hoard. What an incredible history these coins have had!

CONDITION
The coins are in circulated and uncirculated condition and are in nice overall condition for their age. A lot of the older coins were in circulation, so keep in mind they may show some signs of honest wear and use. Not every coin is perfect, some may have issues here and there but that is what one would expect when some of the coins are from the 1800's. (Refer to the photos for approximate condition.)
